Newbie Questions: Gentoo: cannot login after emerge/etc-update

    After running emerge update and etc-update, I cannot log in my box. (after boot new/weird screens shows up, but typing in login/password doesn't have any effect. It also enables only login in failsafe...) Using Knoppix LiveCD, I'm able to see/browse sda1/sda3 partitions.
    Also the hardrive seems to be filled up to levels not present before.

    Does anybody have experience with this and can help me to fix it? Please!!!

    What do you mean by "new/weird screen". Also, after booting up the Knoppix CD, why don't you fire up xchat and join the k-slug IRC channel. It would be a bit easier to help in realtime.

    thanks for your response, in the meantime, I've got Robby (thank you to him !!!) from our department to look into it, and it's almost fixed. But thanks again for your response. I appologize for not getting back here sooner.

    "new/weird screen" = screen I haven't seen before, I'll work on my terminology...
